Ramadan (:

- The 9th month in Islam calender

- Each year Ramadan starts 11 days earlier than previous year

- Muslims have to fast in this whole month, from Fajr (before sun rises, usually before 6 a.m.) until Maghrib (about 7 p.m.)

- Usually muslims will eat before fast starts, which we called "sahur". At the end of the day, the fast is broken with meal. This is most likely to be known as "iftar" or "berbuka"

- Muslims also will usually do special prayer during night, that is "Tarawih prayer"

- Eating, drinking, smoking, and sexual relations, to name a few, are forbidden
during fast.

- In other words, we must control ourself, and do a lot of good and benefited things like recite the Quran (improves memory), do additional prayer (better form of exercise), do charity work and etc.

- Fast is quite like a diet because our stomach rest during the day, and filled with food moderately when it's time to "iftar"

- Therefore, it decreases the blood sugar, cholesterol and blood pressure.

- Ramadan is the time that all muslims waiting for, to strengthen our ties with Allah, make us feel more relax and peace.

- The next month is Syawal. On the 1st Syawal @ Hari Raya Aidilfitri, muslims don't have to fast anymore, it's time to celebrate after 30 days of fast.

- Gifts are exchanged. Friends and family gather to pray, for large meals and for "duit raya" :D

- That's all I think, sorry if there's any mistake, Happy Ramadan to all muslims (:

The Type of Class That I Detest

All of us want to live in luxury, can get anything that we want, go to any anywhere and do anything that we can with our money. My mom always said “Study until smart, and then you can be rich” So it’s all begin with study, go to class, sit for the exam and etc. But nowadays, to only go to class is already so hard because there’s some class that I dislike. The reasons why I detest some class are because the bad lecturer, bad timing and bad environment.

Firstly, is the lecturer. There’s some lecturer that came in the class, start to talk and explain (although we don’t understand anything) and then gave us lots of exercises. This is what we called BORING! The lecturer supposed to give us short break because our brain can’t concentrate along the class for 2 hours. When there’s short break, we can release our tension and get some fresh air. Moreover, the lecturer doesn’t have sense of humour. Humour is quite important to get students attention from daydreaming and making noise. The lecturer may tell some jokes or short stories to make us more relax in the class. Furthermore, the lecturer is always late. If the class start at 8 a.m., he or she will come at 8.15 a.m. or 8.30 a.m. If it’s because something that really important, we don’t care but how about it happens for many times? How can we don’t care anymore? It makes us feel disrespect and make us lose our mood.

Other than that is bad timing. Example like class early in the morning (8-10 a.m.) and night class (8-10 p.m.). When the class start too early, most of the students will come late because they oversleep (well, it can’t be denied that it’s the best time to sleep). Plus, when it’s too early, student didn’t manage to eat breakfast. Therefore they will come in the class with empty stomach, makes them can’t concentrate and just wasting their time in the class. Now about the night class, that also dislike by students. It’s all because in night, students usually busy with club activities and meetings. They also prefer to do revision and homework at night. Moreover, it’s also dangerous for the students to walk to the class at night especially girls and students that live far from here. In addition, students also dislike consecutive classes. There are some students that have to attend class from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. It will tired them, and probably they already lose concentration when it’s just 10 a.m. All of this really dislike by the students.

Next, is the bad environment. Of course to study well, the environment must also in well condition. But some classes have bad air-conditioners. It didn’t function well, thus make the class smells bad. It will be hard for the students to study in smelly class. But it also can’t be too cold in the morning. When this happens, students can’t concentrate because they have to warm their body and some of them will just continue to sleep. Then, some classes also have bad lighting. There are lights that will turn off for a while and there are also lights that didn’t function at all. Students will have hard time to see the slideshow, the board and even the lecturer. Furthermore, the size of the class also is one of the reasons. When the class is small but students are too many, we have to squeeze in along the class for 2 hours. It really not comfortable, makes us can’t concentrate plus if the chairs are broken.

As the conclusion, generally, students will detest the class that have bad environment, bad timing and bad lecturer. If this keep going on, it won’t be good for the university or the school, especially the students. Hope this matter will be solve to make sure the class will be comfortable enough for full of spirited students and thus increase the number of successful students in future.

How to Stay Awake During Classes?

What is class? Class is a period of time in which students are taught something. When students are being taught, they must concentrate to fully understand the subject, or at least get the point, as we can revise and ask the lecturer later. All of us that still study for sure have faced this problem that is ‘to stay awake in class ’. If we don’t pay attention in class, we won’t understand the subject, can’t do the exercises given and may also fail in exam. Therefore, as now you already know the important to stay awake in class, how to do it? Well, there are several things that you can do before, during and after the class.

First of all, before class start, make sure you are readily prepared. Do read first and go through the chapter that will be taught. It will make you easily understand the topic as you already have the idea. Next, to make sure that you wouldn’t spend more time at toilet than class, don’t eat too much before class especially oily food and fast food. Drink essence of chicken or red bull to make you stay alert throughout the class. Furthermore, to make you stay awake during class, do take a quick nap before class. You can also walk to the class rather than driving or do a simple exercise like stretching. Hence, you wouldn’t fall asleep during class.

In addition, during the class, sit in front to have clearer vision and to pay more attention. When you sit in front, you will have eye contact with the lecturer. Therefore you won’t dare to sleep or play. Also, don’t ignore what the lecturer talks. Do hear and take notes. You will get additional information and will make you concentrate in the class. Then, you can also eat some snacks like sweets, gums and biscuits because it will provide us energy and make our mouth busy (rather than sleep). Don’t forget to take short breaks and get some fresh air before continue with the class. It will less your tension.

Besides that, lives a healthy life after class. You can play healthy outdoor games like basketball, football, netball, and jogging. It can make your body feels refresh and fit, as long as you don’t over play. Moreover, do sleep early. Try to get 6-8 hours of sleep time. You can play games and chatting but have your limit. Don’t play or chat until late night. Your brain and body must have enough rest to continue the study next day. Other than that, do revise again what you have learned. Read the notes again and do some exercises. You will have better understanding for the subject and won’t get lots of trouble when the exam comes.

Finally, class is an important time to study. It’s the time to get new knowledge that is priceless. Therefore, please go to class and concentrate along the class. Steps above are some of the ways that you can practice to stay awake in class and thus may make you score in the examination. Remember, don’t make noise and play around in class because you are supposed to pay. Pay what? PAY ATTENTION! :D
